Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Monday hailed bilateral relations with China.

Cyprus considers China as an important and true friend, said Anastasiades at an event to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and China.

The Cypriot president also recalled his successful visit to China in October 2015.

Anastasiades spoke highly of the Road and Belt Initiative proposed by China'.

"Today, the Road and Belt Initiative is a prime example of China's role as a major player in global governance, aiming to promote regional economic cooperation, connecting East Asia and Europe," he said.

Cyprus is ready to act as a stepping stone of the EU to offer vast opportunities to Chinese businessmen who seek to establish their activities and production units on the island, Anastasiades added.
