The ground-breaking ceremony for Marseille International Fashion Center(MIF68) was held in Marseille, the second largest city in France, on Feb. 10.

Invested in by Chinese merchants and supported by Marseille, the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in July, People’s Daily reports.

Upon completion, the trade center will provide a platform for medium and small sized enterprises from southern France, Spain, Italy, eastern Europe and North Africa to trade with China.

The trade center, covering an area of 25 hectares, will attract over 200 enterprises.

The trade center will greatly enhance the economic development of the northern part of Marseille as well as the Port of Marseille and also bring more jobs to the city, said Marseille mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin.

The trade center, with an investment of 30 million euros, will create more than 1,000 jobs.
