Founded in 1950,China National Salt Industry Corporation (CNSIC,formerly known as China Salt Industry Company) is China’s largest state-owned enterprise of salt producer and supplier ,supervised under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It mainly has two duties: one is to become strong and do the best in this line , guaranteeing and increasing the value of state owned assets; the second is to undertake the monoply production of table salt, ensuring stable supplies of standard iodized salt nation wide.
CNSIC possesses total assets of 34.5 billion RMB in value. The output has reached more than 12 million tons in salt , 7.7 million tons in salt chemical products annually. The gross output volume ranks top in terms of inorganic chemicals, agriculture, fine chemical and daily chemical series products within the worldwide. Its product has outreached over 410 million populations directly, covering 36% national territory. CNSIC possesses 46 wholly owned subsidiaries and 60,000 employees, spreading in 22 provinces and cities across the nation.
As a state-owned central enterprise, CNSIC has been committing itself to the monopoly on China’s table salt, production and operation in industrial salt and salt chemicals. Ever since its establishment, CNSIC has been devoted to the sustainable, steady and long term development. Since the 1990s, CNSIC has been carrying out the table salt monopolization policy to ensure the steady iodized salt supply, making outstanding contributions for fighting the hazard of iodine deficiency with remarkable achievements.
According to the statistics, China's residential iodized salt coverage rate has reached up to 97.5%, much higher than the 70% of the world average level. While, nationwide iodine deficiency has been effectively controlled. Children’s goiter rate has dropped from 20.8% in 1995 to below 5% at present. The national children's intelligence quotient figure turns out to be 103.5. As results, "1996-2000 Technical Cooperation Project Contribution Award" was granted by the former Ministry of Foreign Trade."The Global Children's Career Contribution Award" was granted by United Nations to China Salt Industry Corporation based on its continuous efforts and contributions.
Having implemented the First-Round salt industry strategy by 2009, CNSIC, as one of China's top 500 enterprises has realized its preliminary goal becoming a leading enterprise in salt and salt chemical as well as production within Asia scope.
CNSIC started to carry out the Second-Round salt industry strategy in 2010, striving to quadruple sales volume, total profit and total assets; achieving target of becoming world first-class enterprise within next five years.
