Note: This column mainly includes countries along the Belt and Road and countries that have signed cooperation agreements with China on Belt and Road Initiative.

In 2013, the relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Peru was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The practical cooperation between the two countries produced fruitful results in various fields.

The two countries maintained close high-level exchanges with increasing political trust. From 5 to 9 April, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala paid a state visit to China and attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2013. During his visit, President Xi Jinping held talks with him. Premier Li Keqiang, CPPCC Chairman Yu Zhengsheng and Vice President Li Yuanchao had separate meetings with him. The two presidents jointly announced the elevation of China-Peru relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides signed 11 cooperation documents, including the Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Peru on Economic and Technological Cooperation, the Executive Programme for the Period Through 2013-2018 Under the Cultural Exchange Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Peru, the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Peru on Cooperation in the Fields of Research and Development of Agricultural Science and Technology and the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Peru on International Cooperation of Education. In February, Peruvian Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo visited China. Vice Chairman Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit of the CPPCC National Committee and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met and held talks with him respectively. In May, the Second Vice President of the Peruvian Congress Juan Carlos Eguren visited China.

Bilateral trade increased steadily and practical cooperation deepened. China is the second largest trading partner and an important source of investment of Peru. The Toromocho Project undertaken by Aluminium Corporation of China in Peru entered into operation. PetroChina acquired PetroBras's assets in Peru. In June, Peruvian Agriculture Minister Milton von Hesse attended the First China-Latin America and the Caribbean Agricultural Ministers' Forum held in China. In December, Zhong Shan, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce attended the 15th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial and Development Organization in Peru.

The two countries had ever growing exchanges and cooperation in cultural, educational, military and legal field. The art troupe "Cultures of China, Festival of Spring" performed in Peru and was well received. The Confucius Institutes are operating smoothly. In September, Magistrate Fernando Calle Hayen of the Constitutional Court of Peru attended the sixth Beijing Forum on Human Rights in China.
