The People's Forum magazine, on June 30, published an article on the role of transport in construction of the Belt and Road Initiative co-authored by Yang Chuantang, Party chief of the Ministry of Transport, and Li Xiaopeng, the Transport Minister.

The following are brief excerpts:

Facility interconnectivity, the foundation of cooperative development, refers to the construction of transportation "hardware," as well as "software" such as a relevant institution, rules and standards.

Infrastructure connectivity is a top priority in building of the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past four years, China has made great progress in land transport, remarkable achievements in sea port construction and practical progress in interconnectivity by air.

The cooperative mechanism on transport between China and other countries has become optimized and more efficient, and the investment and financing mechanism on transport infrastructure construction has been greatly improved.

The ministry will advance coordination of transport policies, rules and standards, boost building of land transport passages, improve the international transport service network, actively deepen marine transport interconnectivity and encourage transport-related industrial cooperation.
