Academy of Science founded to serve Belt and Road

The International Silk Road Academy of Science (ISRAS) was founded in Beijing on Oct. 24.

The new academy was set up at the behest of the China Science Center of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences.

Science and technology organizations of 25 countries along the Belt and Road routes, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Austria, have joined as the first batch of members of ISRAS. The organizations sent their representatives to attend the opening ceremony of the academy.

Jiang Zhenghua, executive director of the IEAS and chairman of the IEAS China Science Center, said that cooperation on science and technology and innovation among countries along the Belt and Road routes can promote the sharing of science and technology breakthroughs and development experiences.

In his congratulatory letter, Wang Gang, minister of science and technology, points out the new academy will serve as a cooperation and exchange platform for experts, entrepreneurs and scholars to contribute to innovation in science and technology.

The new academy is expected to promote the integration of natural sciences, engineering technology and social sciences, as well as to merge science, technology, industry and finance, to provide references for decision-making on complex issues while resolving the risks and problems arising in the process of Belt and Road construction.
