The energy cooperation between China and countries along the Belt and Road (B&R) is promising, according to experts attending a forum held recently by Minzu University of China.

Huang Xiaoyong, president of the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that energy trade and energy infrastructure construction cooperation boast brilliant prospect, which will lay a solid foundation for more extensive and in-depth economic exchange and cooperation among relevant countries and regions.

Energy network is very important in the Belt and Road energy cooperation, according to Ka-ho Yu, a researcher at Harvard Kennedy School. He explained that a huge energy network will come into being with the gradual growth of investment in energy. Energy network construction will further promote regional economic development.

Han Wenke, former director of the Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission, pointed out that during the B&R energy cooperation, we should think how to convert energy and resource advantage of the countries along the B&R into economic and social advantage, how to better solve the problems of energy supply guarantee system and energy security in the countries and regions along the route, and how to promote green and low-carbon transformation of the energy system of the those countries.

He suggested that we should focus on the following transformations in energy cooperation, including transforming one-way, bilateral and low-level energy cooperation into multilateral and multi-level cooperation, transforming regional energy cooperation mechanism into regional administration mechanism, changing fossil energy-oriented cooperation into green energy-oriented one and transforming separately-planned cooperation into jointly-planned cooperation.
