Ethiopia's new ambassador to China Teshome Toga Chanaka has vowed to work with more vigor towards the realization of agreements inched by the two countries, according to a statement on Thursday.

Toga, a veteran politician serving the East African country in various high-profile ministerial portfolios, officially assumed his new role on Wednesday, according to the statement issued by the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

The long-serving politician, who was Ethiopia's Minister of Public Enterprises prior to his latest appointment, vowed to work towards the realization of priority areas of mutual interest, including the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

"Ethiopia is more committed than ever to fully apply and accomplish the agreements it has made with China mainly through the Ethiopia-China comprehensive strategic partnership platform, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and the Belt and Road Initiative," the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Toga as saying.

Toga also served as Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, the lower house of the Ethiopian parliament, for five years from 2005 to 2010.

The newly appointed ambassador further acknowledged China's "unreserved" cooperation and support to Ethiopia's poverty eradication and economic transformation endeavors, the statement said.
