In September, 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed the Silk Road Economic Belt during his visit to Kazakhstan.

In October, 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed to jointly build the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road in his speech at the Indonesian Parliament.

In December, 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed that the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road should be propelled at the annual Central Economic Work Conference.

In February, 2014, President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin reached consensus on the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road and the connection between Russia's Euro-Asia Railways and the B&R.

In March, 2014, it was proposed that the planning and building of the B&R should be intensified in the Report on the Work of the Government.

In November, 2014, President Xi Jinping announced during the APEC Summit that China has decided to commit 40 billion US dollars to the establishment of a Silk Road Fund.

In February, 2015, members of the Leading Group for Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative debuted.

In March, 2015, Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road was released.

In December, 2015, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was formally established.

In August, 2016, a symposium on promoting the B&R was held.

In March, 2017, the official website of China promoting the B&R, Belt and Road Portal, was launched.

In March, 2017, the B&R was put into a UN Security Council Resolution.

In May, 2017, the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was held in Beijing.

In June, 2017, China proposed the idea of the B&R maritime cooperation for the first time.

In July, 2017, the Asian Financial Cooperation Association was established.

In October, 2017, the B&R was written into Constitution of the Communist Party of China.

In January, 2018, China and Latin America co-published the Special Statement on the Belt and Road Initiative, which shows that the BRI has begun to extend to the continent of Latin America.

In June, 2018, Opinion Concerning the Establishment of the Belt and Road International Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Institutions was published.

In September, 2018, the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing.

In September, 2018, China and Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding on jointly building the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.

In November, 2018, subordinated to the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, the China-Singapore Southern Transport Corridor was officially renamed as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.

In April, 2019, the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation will be held in Beijing.
