Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday.
Tapping the potential of cooperation, SCO member states make progress while ensuring stability since last year's Qingdao summit, Wang noted.
The current world is being marked by uncertainty, a defining feature of the international landscape, unilateralism and protectionism further developed, Wang said, calling SCO member states for more efforts to cooperate on building a community of shared future for mankind.
The minister also made five proposals for future cooperations.
First, all member states should work in close coordination, deepen mutual trust and increase mutual support. Second, deepen security cooperation to provide a reliable underpinning for common development.
Third, expand result-oriented cooperation and continue to strengthen points of weakness. Wang hoped all member states would continue to align their development strategies with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Forth, strengthen people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning. Fifth, outline SCO's commitment to the world and increase global influence.
After the meeting, foreign ministers signed relevant documents in preparation for the upcoming Bishkek summit and issued a press communique.
Ministers agreed to promote BRI construction thus better coordinates development strategies, recognized the need to observe the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, strongly condemned and firmly opposed terrorism of all forms, and preserve and implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
