The Lao government will continue boosting human resource development in the railway sector to enlarge the labor force for key projects such as the China-Laos railway, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Wednesday.

Lao Minister of Education and Sports Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun recently reported on human resource development efforts during the ongoing session of the National Assembly.

In 2018, a total of 34 Lao students studied in the railway sector abroad. Some government officials attended training courses in various fields to support international cooperation projects.

Human resource development in the railway sector aims to prepare people for a new railway service training college, which will be set up in Lao capital Vientiane.

The new college is expected to create about 900 graduates a year in the railway sector, said the minister.

In addition, the minister said the government will also continue boosting human resource development in agriculture, teaching and nursing to meet the country's development needs and to eliminate poverty.
