BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in Beijing on Tuesday.

Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said China is ready to work with Portugal to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Portugal is welcome to participate in the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and jointly practice true multilateralism, he said.

China's NPC is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with Portugal's parliament and enhance exchange of experience in legislation and supervision, Zhao said.

Hailing Portugal-China relations as a model for bilateral ties, Montenegro said Portugal sticks to the one-China policy and appreciates China's efforts in global governance.

Portugal stands ready to deepen practical cooperation and cultural exchanges with China and promote exchanges between legislative institutions to advance bilateral ties, he said.
