BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Over 1,200 Chinese scientists were added to the latest list of highly cited researchers issued by Clarivate, a major global science data analyzer, according to the China Science Daily on Wednesday.
Clarivate on Wednesday released its Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list. A total of 6,849 scientists from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 countries and regions were added to the list, with 83.8 percent coming from 10 countries and regions.
A total of 1,275 Chinese scientists were selected for the list, with China ranking second globally. Some 1,169 Chinese scientists were selected last year.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) employs 270 of the researchers on this year's list, making it the institution with the largest number of highly cited researchers in the world. CAS accounted for 228 researchers from China who were selected last year.
Each researcher selected has, over the past decade, authored multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1 percent by citations in their field and publication year on the Web of Science, according to Clarivate. A preliminary list based on citation activity is compiled and then refined by qualitative analysis and expert judgement.
