Chongqing shines in Taipei Summer Travel Expo to boost cross-strait tourism

Chongqing - The 2024 Taipei Summer Travel Expo opened onJuly 12 at Exhibition Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center. To restore and revitalize the two-way tourism market between China's Chongqing and Taiwan, the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development has organized a delegation of enterprises to participate in the exhibition.

This marks the first time since 2019 that Chongqing's cultural and tourism sector has been invited to participate in the Taipei exhibition, signifying a new beginning for the collaborative tourism market between Chongqing and Taiwan.

The Chongqing booth was bustling with activity and excitement. Cultural and tourism promoters, dressed in traditional Miao silver-embellished costumes, warmly introduced Taiwan guests to the enchanting cityscapes, magnificent Three Gorges, picturesque Wuling landscapes, and unique Chongqing cuisine.

Attractions such as the Yangtze River cableway, pandas, hotpot, and Miao villages were hot topics among the Taiwan visitors. The promoters passionately explained Chongqing's rich history, beautiful scenery, and delicious food, creating a lively and friendly atmosphere that increased Taiwan visitors' interest in Chongqing.

While visiting the Chongqing booth,Taiwan Tourism Interchange Association (TTIA) Chairperson Janice Laimentioned that she had visited Chongqing 20 years ago and was deeply impressed by its food and scenery. She suggested that Chongqing and Taiwan strengthen their tourism exchanges and interactions, allowing more Taiwanese people to understand and appreciate Chongqing.

The Chongqing delegation also prepared Chongqing travel maps, promotional brochures, and intangible cultural heritage souvenirs, which were well-received by Taiwan visitors.

"Chongqing is a wonderful place, rich in resources and abundant in cultural and natural attractions. I look forward to visiting Chongqing in September," saidone Taiwan visitor.

Leveraging this opportunity to participate in the Taipei exhibition, the Chongqing delegation actively connected with Taiwan travel agencies, introducing the latest Chongqing tourism products, preferential policies, and reception conditions. Through face-to-face exchanges, they explored innovative tourism products and discussed cooperation models to boost the tourism industries of both regions, revitalizing the tourism market.

Since the beginning of this year, Chongqing has invited nearly 70 Taiwan travel agencies and 80 travel merchants to visit and explore potential partnerships with 60 Chongqing tourism enterprises, resulting in several cooperation agreements.

China's Taiwan region has consistently been a major inbound tourism market for Chongqing. In the first half of 2024, Taiwan visitors ranked first among inbound tourists in Chongqing, accounting for 17.2% of all inbound tourists.
