Xiamen trade with B&R countries keeps increasing

The city of Xiamen in southern China’s Fujian Province has seen its trade with countries along the Belt and Road increase so far this year.

Data from Xiamen customs shows two-way trade reached 23.56 billion yuan in the first two months, a year-on-year increase of 15.6 percent. It accounted for 28 percent of the city’s overall foreign trade in the period.   

Trade with ASEAN countries reached 12.49 billion yuan in the first two months, accounting for 53 percent of Xiamen’s total trade with the Belt and Road countries,  a year-on-year increase of 22.1 percent. Trade with the Philippines tops the list, with the total value reaching 3.02 billion yuan, up 7.5 percent.

Electromechanical products form the biggest item in Xiamen’s imports from countries along the routes, with the value reaching 2.91 billion yuan, an increase of 36.3 percent. Electromechanical products and labor-intensive products dominated exports, accounting for 77.1 percent of Xiamen’s overall shipments to countries along the routes in the first two months.
