Medical supplies from China delivered to BiH
Two planes from China carrying medical equipment and supplies needed to fight the COVID-19 pandemic landed on Wednesday at two airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), local media reported.
One landed at Banja Luka International Airport, some 200 km northwest from BiH's capital city of Sarajevo. It carried about 55 tons of medical equipment purchased by the government of Republika Srpska, one of the two entities of BiH, media reports said.
Thanking the Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in BiH for helping deliver the necessary equipment, Radovan Viskovic, prime minister of Republika Srpska, said medical workers are now geared up to fight the virus for the next few months.
According to media reports, the other plane landed at Sarajevo International Airport, carrying medical masks, gloves and visors donated by authorities in China's municipality of Shanghai.
Shanghai authorities also offered to send medical experts to help BiH cope with the pandemic, said Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka recently.
BiH reported its first case of COVID-19 40 days ago. So far, the country has recorded a total of 1,115 confirmed cases, with 42 deaths and 259 recoveries.
