ROME, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Seventeen firms and individuals from China and Italy were honored with the China Awards 2021 in a virtual ceremony hosted by the Italy China Foundation here on Tuesday.

Now in its 16th edition, the event was broadcast live on the internet and on an Italian TV channel, recognizing Italian and Chinese businesses that best seized the opportunities offered by their respective markets in terms of flows of capital, goods, services and ideas in 2021.

Chinese Ambassador to Italy Li Junhua and Italy's Ambassador to China Luca Ferrari were among the top officials attending the virtual award ceremony.

The firms and people awarded this year operate in the food and beverage, fashion, consulting, hospitality, machinery and pharmaceuticals sectors.

Today, China focuses on expanding the domestic consumption of its middle class and on technological innovation, said Mario Boselli, president of the Italy China Foundation. This will offer countless opportunities for competitive Italian firms in the coming years, he noted.

In order to take advantage of these opportunities, "we must focus on the quality that has always distinguished us (Italy's products), on innovation -- an area in which we are still lagging behind -- and on the presence of our companies in the Asian country," he noted.

Overall, ten Italian companies, five Chinese firms, one Sino-Italian business partnership and one Sino-Italian entrepreneur were awarded for their contributions to bilateral exchanges.

Launched to highlight the relevance of internationalization for the growth of both Italian and Chinese companies, this annual event is organized by the Italy China Foundation and Italian publisher Class Editori in partnership with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China.
