China's Yangtze River Delta region reports rise of China-Europe freight train trips in Jan.-May

The Yangtze River Delta region, China's foreign trade hub, saw a surge in China-Europe freight train trips in the first five months of this year,Chinanews.com reported on Monday.
China-Europe freight trains departing from the Yangtze River Delta region witnessed a total of 1,135 trips in the first five months of this year, up 8.8 percent year on year.
Nearly 110,600 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of goods were transported by the China-Europe freight trains from the Yangtz River Delta during the period, up 12.9 percent year on year.
In May alone, the number of China-Europe freight train trips from the Yangtze River Delta hit 235, surging 14.1 percent year on year.
The freight trains carried a total of 23,000 TEU of goods, up 12.9 percent from a year ago.
Industry insiders noted that the freight train service from the Yangtze River Delta to Europe has become an important way of international logistics transportation.
