Int’l Silk Road Science Academy founded in Beijing

International Silk Road Science Academy was founded in Beijing on Sept. 25.

Scientists from 25 countries attend the ceremony marking the establishment of the organization, which originates from the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013.

The science academies of Kazakhstan and Russia jointly proposed in 2015 that China should take the lead to found the International Silk Road Science Academy to unite the science and technology power of all countries taking part in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the proposal and decides to take the lead to build the academy and make it a platform for not only cooperation about scientific research, but also communications and exchanges on the Belt and Road Initiative.

Science organizations from 25 countries, including China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland and Austria, become the first batch of members of the academy.

The academy's headquarters and secretariat locate in Beijing.
