China is transforming into a space powerhouse through remarkable progress in its space technology, space applications and space sciences over the past five years, said Tian Yulong, general-secretary of China National Space Administration, at the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia, on Oct. 31.

China is willing to share its research achievements and space infrastructure facilities with the other countries, according to the “collective consultation, joint participation and shared benefits” principles of the Belt and Road Initiative. The construction of an information corridor in space is also part of this, he added.

China has cooperated with over 30 countries at various levels of space technology, applications and sciences.

Tian noted that future space exploration will entail larger inputs and contain more risks. It will take the concerted efforts of different countries in utilizing their strengths, innovating cooperation methods and removing the barriers to let space sciences and industries better serve the humans.

China’s innovative abilities in the space industries are constantly improving. Now, China has started to use non-poisonous and pollution-free new types of engines in its new rockets. China’s telecommunications, navigation and remote-sensing satellites have entered a development stage of serialization.

China attaches great importance to transform high and new technologies in aerospace science industries to create the necessary technologies and means for economic and social development, Tian added.

For instance, the telecommunication technologies can be used in telemedicine and distance learning; the comprehensive monitoring of the satellites can play important roles in disaster prevention and reduction, as well as resource protection.
