China hosted the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing on May14-15, 2017. It is a major international event for countries and parties concerned to engage in consultation on building the Belt and Road and sharing the benefits. It is also an important platform for the participating parties to strengthen cooperation and synergize their development strategies.

Before and during the BRF, national governments, local authorities and enterprises reached a number of cooperation agreements, policy measures and practical results. The Chinese side has put together a list of major deliverables of the BRF, in which the Belt and Road Portal is listed.

The list includes 76 items comprising more than 270 concrete results in five key areas, namely policy, infrastructure, trade, financial and people-to-people connectivity. President Xi Jinping said the outcomes will be a strong support for the build of the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance the confidence of all parties to deepen practical cooperation.

Belt and Road Portal, the first authoritative platform launched since the Initiative was proposed, was included into the list. Developed with the approval of the leading group office on the Construction of the Belt and Road, the Portal (www.yidaiyilu.gov.cn) is hosted by the State Information Center. With the aim of promoting information sharing, civilization exchanges and win-win cooperation, it went on line in March, 2017.

The Portal aims to address key concerns at home and abroad, provide scientific explanations on the core ideas of the Initiative, give interpretations to Chinese and foreign policies, laws and regulations in regard to the Initiative, demonstrate the latest developments and achievements and promote information sharing and exchanges among enterprises, social organizations and citizens of the Belt and Road countries.

The Portal is a gateway to top news in China and Belt and Road countries, relevant policies, progress in the top five cooperation priorities, data analysis, enterprises news and opinions. Users can also search for the information they need in the customized databases on economic data, policies, projects, enterprises and talents.

The Portal has established an information liaison mechanism involving over 30 ministries and ministerial-level departments, all provincial-level regions in China and many countries along the Belt and Road routes. It’s accessible via multiple terminals, including PC and mobile phone.

Authorized by the leading group office on the Construction of the Belt and Road, the Portal released seven language versions of Building the Belt and Road: Concept, Practice and China’s Contribution, and exclusively released important policy documents such as The Belt and Road Ecological and Environmental Cooperation Plan and Guidance on Promoting Green Belt and Road during the BRF.

The Portal and the News Center of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council co-produced the special coverage - Belt and Road Projects, to present the achievements of the project constructions in countries along the routes. Besides, the Portal launched a column named B&R FAQs, and presented a series of infographics to help shed light on all of readers’ questions.

The Portal, which is currently in English and Chinese, will have Russian, French, Arabic and Spanish versions within the year to reach the widest possible audience.
