SW.China Chongqing's international air cargo throughput surges 46.8 pct y-o-y to a record high in 2021

The air cargo throughput of Chongqing municipality in southwest China achieved 477,000 tonnes in 2021, of which international cargo and mail throughput surged 46.8 percent year-on-year to 221,000 tonnes in the period, hitting a record high, reported Chongqing Daily on March 4.

It is noted that the city has opened 106 international air routes connecting 78 cities in more than 35 countries and regions in the world, including 27 international freight routes.

Chongqing has made efforts to optimize its air cargo transport capacity. In 2021, Chongqing realized the weekly operation of more than 30 cargo flights on 18 international air freight routes, with its weekly outbound air transport capacity reaching more than 5,000 tonnes in 2021.

In addition, the Chongqing Branch of Air China Cargo Co., Ltd, the first cargo base company established in Chongqing last year, launched three cargo aircraft and completed an international cargo throughput of 93,000 tons last year, which further promoted the local international air cargo development in Chongqing.
