RIYADH, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia on Wednesday held for the first time the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese proficiency competition for university students at the HUAWEI Future Space in Riyadh Front, a retail complex in the capital.

The competition, on the theme of "One World, One Family," was co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and Minzu University of China.

During the final round of the competition, 12 finalists from three Saudi universities showed their Chinese language skills and understanding of the Chinese culture through speeches and cultural performances, such as Tai Chi, Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting and drawing.

Ahmad Sulaiman, a student from the King Abdulaziz University, won the competition. He will have the opportunity to represent Saudi Arabia in the "Chinese Bridge" global final.

Launched in 2002, "Chinese Bridge" is an annual competition aimed at arousing the enthusiasm of students in various countries to learn Chinese and strengthen the world's understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
