Thailand and China have signed two high-speed railway project agreements worth of around 1 billion yuan (US$155 million) on project design and the employing of technical advisers, marking the starting of the high-speed railway project in Thailand.

The two agreements are inked as the two countries’ leaders — China’s President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha—met in Xiamen, east China’s Fujian Province, during the 9th BRICS Summit from September 3 to 5.

The first-stage project is to build a 250-kilometer high-speed railway between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima in the northeast of Thailand. The project is expected to start in October and be finished by 2021.
