China, Laos and Vietnam have made concrete progress in connecting their power grids, said the news release of China-ASEAN Electricity Cooperation and Development Forum in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on September 12.

China Southern Power Grid signed a memorandum of understanding with companies of Laos and Vietnam, according to which China will transmit 5 million to 6 million kilowatts of power to Vietnam via Laos between 2021 and 2025. This is the first three-party grid connection project involving China.

Last year China's major electricity enterprises invested US$1.48 billion on projects with investment of above US$30 million. The total investment of the project contracts above US$30 million which Chinese power enterprises have signed with ASEAN partners hit US$2.4 billion, according to Yang Kun, vice chairman of China Electricity Council.

China Southern Power Grid signed a memorandum of understanding on grid investment cooperation with Cambodia. The State Grid Corporation of China’s power transmission and transformation project in Laos kicked off, and its grid networking project in Myanmar is also going well.

Xuji Group Corporation purchased 47.48 percent of Vietnam’s North Electric Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., becoming its largest shareholder.

The 168,000 kilowatt-installed capacity hydro power station co-built by China Southern Power Grid and the Laos on the Nam Tha River will come into operation in April next year.
