GLOBALink | Kenya's power producer taps Chinese electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions
NAIROBI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's state-owned electricity producer said Friday that it will use Chinese electric vehicles purchased through a competitive public tender to reduce carbon emissions.
The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has so far purchased two such vehicles from JAC Motors as part of an effort to transform its petrol-powered vehicles into a fully green transport fleet.
KenGen, which is the country's largest electricity producer, is keen to catalyze the uptake of e-mobility in Kenya through its early adoption of electric vehicles.
Muthike noted that their long-term strategy is to install public charging stations across the country that will make it attractive for motorists to switch to electric vehicles.
