JAKARTA, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia donated goods and materials to schools and mosques along parts of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) on Wednesday.

Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Lu Kang attended the online donation ceremony on Wednesday, saying that the Jakarta-Bandung HSR is a railway for the Indonesian people. After its completion, it will greatly facilitate the traveling of local residents and promote the local socioeconomic development.

Lu Kang expressed his gratitude to the residents living along the railway for their support and cooperation during the construction of the project, wishing that the goods and materials donated by the Chinese embassy could improve the conditions of schools and mosques, so that everyone could study, work and live in a better environment.

Representatives of the schools and the mosques who participated in the donation ceremony thanked the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the Chinese enterprises for their care for the residents.

These donations will help address their practical difficulties, they said, adding that the Jakarta-Bandung HSR will provide them with a better travel option and have a positive impact on the development of Indonesia.

The high-speed railway, a landmark project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, connects Indonesia's capital Jakarta and its fourth-largest city Bandung, which is also the capital of West Java Province.

With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the railway built with Chinese technology will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to around 40 minutes.
