A China Southern Airlines cargo plane loaded with 90 tonnes of goods departed Shanghai for Mexico on Monday, marking the official launch of a new cargo route to Mexico by the leading Chinese airline, reported chinanews.com on Tuesday.

The route is also the only cargo route operated by China Southern Airlines to Latin America.

The B777 freighter runs three flights per week on each Monday, Thursday and Saturday, mainly transporting online retail products, auto parts, machinery and equipment, according to Zhang Minglong, sales manager of the air logistics arm of China Southern Airlines.

The inaugural of the new route will further enhance the international air freight capacity of China Southern Airlines and promote China-Mexico trade, said Wu Mingfeng, general manager of the logistics network department of China Southern Airlines Air Logistics.

The total trade value between China and Mexico reached 578.38 billion yuan in the first 11 months of 2022, up 13.9 percent year on year, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
