More than 100 experts and scholars from over 10 countries including China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand gathered at the 10th China-ASEAN Think Tank Strategic Dialogue Forum to deliberate on co-building the Belt and Road and promoting China-ASEAN cooperation.

“China has worked out a new plan for socioeconomic development. Its long-term and stable development will bring abundant opportunities for ASEAN countries. China-ASEAN relationship has become a model for global regional cooperation. The close exchanges and cooperation between the two sides is the key,” said Feng Shihui, a researcher at the Institute of Chinese Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

According to Wang Yuzhu, a researcher at the National Institute of International Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIIS CASS), noted that the core mission of China and ASEAN is to further strengthen mutually beneficial relations. “The two sides have established economic interdependence as China is ASEAN’s largest trade partner and ASEAN is China’s third largest,” Wang added.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN. Over the past five decades, ASEAN has substantially achieved integrated and stable development and has become the backbone force for promoting regional inclusive growth and developing partnerships with China,” said Huang Ribo, vice chairman of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Experts said that the two sides should pay more attention to deepening cultural cooperation between China and ASEAN countries besides carrying out economic cooperation.

“The cultural exchanges and cooperation between Cambodia and China have reached a high level and are promising in the future,” said Song Chunben, vice president of the Royal Academy of Cambodia.
