Sinohydro Corporation Limited, a State-owned Chinese company, signed a contract on construction of a bridge over the Shitalakhya River with the Road Transport and Highways Division under Bangladesh’s Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges

on February 8 in Dacca, capital of Bangladesh. The US$57.18-million deal is funded by Bangladeshi government and the Saudi Fund for Development.

The construction work covers the main bridge, viaduct, revetments and tollgates. All construction work is planned to be completed within 36 months.

The new bridge is expected to improve communications between the two sides of the river and make it more convenient to reach key ports and cities such as Chittagong and Sylhet from the capital Dhaka.
