Aoqian Taiwan Town in Pingtan launches Spring Festival shopping fair

The Spring Festival shopping fair for 2019 was launched at Aoqian Taiwan Town in Pingtan on January 26. The event, with theme of “bringing love home with Spring Festival purchase”, aims to promote folklore and food culture across the Straits as well as expand the development of the town in tourism culture. The event will be on until January 31. 

The Spring Festival shopping fair brings over 20 special booths for Taiwan specialties so that visitors will have opportunities to taste Fujian and Taiwan specialty food as well as purchase Spring Festival specialties originated from Taiwan. In addition, the fair will include a folk performance on traditions across the Straits, where visitors may try out in Han Chinese costumes and enjoy Taiwan’s traditional street show performance, even kids can enjoy their time with parents at kids’ zone.

According to staff from tourism development committee of Pingtan comprehensive pilot zone, Aoqian Taiwan Town has now signed contracts with about 270 shops. Over 800 people work here and among which 150 are from Taiwan. The total import of Taiwan goods has reached around 3.1 billion RMB. The organizer of the event has made full preparation for the six-day-feast that integrates food, drink, amusement, entertainment and shopping. In addition, an entrepreneurship street for youngsters across the Straits will be open in May. A new round of culture creation investment promotion campaigns will come into being. By then, more youngsters in this sector from across the Straits will join by bringing in their businesses and enrich the tourist and shopping experience in the town.

Tan Jiaming came to Pingtan from Taiwan for a new business in April last year. He said, “I have seen lots of authentic Taiwan commodities and food here, it’s kind of warm here. And they have this amusement place for kids; it’s great to bring family here. This will be my first Spring Festival here in Pingtan, I’m staying with my friends from Taiwan and we’re getting used to our lives here. I hope it’s getting better and better in Pingtan.”

It is understood that on February 5, the first day of the Chinese New Year, a Spring Festival’s grand business opening celebration will take place in Aoqian Taiwan Town. A variety of activities will then be brought to visitors along with New Year greetings.
