2018 Cross-Strait New Media Entrepreneurship Competition Award Ceremony Held in Pingtan, Fujian

The 2018 Cross-Strait New Media Entrepreneurship Competition, lasted over 3 months, held its final and award ceremony in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on 26 February.

Liang Jianping, Chief Editor and Deputy Secretary, Party Leadership Group, Fujian Daily, Cai Fuyong, member of Party Working Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone and Deputy Director of Administration Commission, Zhang Mingqing, former president of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and former Dean of School of Journalism and Communication, Xiamen University and Pan Xianqiang, member of Party Leadership Group, Fujian and Deputy Chief Editor, Fujian Daily attended the award ceremony.

Pan Xianqiang, member of Party Leadership Group, Fujian and Deputy Chief Editor, Fujian Daily Indicated in the speech that considering the dramatic changes of the ecology of public opinion, media structure and forms of communication, the competition this year is focusing on the bigger picture and general trend of the development of new media, weeding through the old and bring forth the new and highlighting market segments and vertical fields. The competition has provided a platform for the display, communication, financing and startup support amongst cross-strait new media entrepreneurs and enhanced the communications and contact in youngsters from both sides of the strait. Following the trend of media convergence, Fujian Daily and Southeast Net will continue to take advantage of its strong points in communications, endeavor to support the cross-strait new media entrepreneurship and amalgamate core resources in the industry, in order to provide a comprehensive service.

Zhang Mingqing indicated in the speech that the evolution of new media on both sides of the strait have their own features. The mainland new media is speeding up its reform. With the emergence of new media platforms such as Wechat, Weibo and Tik Tok, its strength in the market and technology has become apparent. Meanwhile, The Taiwan new media boasts its abundance of skilled professionals in content creation and marketing. Through cross-strait communication, young entrepreneurs in new media on both sides of the strait draw on their strength, overcome their weaknesses by learning from each other's strong points, combine resources and explore the possible model and path of integrated development, which enables more new media startup projects to be launched in Fujian.

12 projects, in three main themes, namely new content, new marketing and new application, made their way to the competition final. "World Exploration" won the prize of the Most Influential New Media Content Award, "Dhyana" won the prize of the Most Competitive New Media Marketing Award, "High Compression and Enhancement of Pictures and Videos Based upon Virtual Intelligence" won the prize of Most Creative New Media Application Award. "Monitor Ye's Taihai Channel" won the prize of the Most Competitive New Media Marketing Shortlisted Award, "Dad's Way of Raising a Child" won the prize of the Most Competitive New Media Marketing Shortlisted Award and "Car Network Operation" won the prize of Most Creative New Media Application Shortlisted Award. The abovementioned 6 award winning projects have received RMB 30,000 and RMB 10,000 respectively.

The competition attracted a large number of new media candidates from both sides of the strait to follow and participate since the start of competition application, with over 100 high quality projects involved, highlighting its cross-strait feature. The projects were shortlisted after themed contests and internet poll and 12 projects made their way to the final.
