Confronting with the global pandemic, the Chinese government launched the "Spring Sprout" program to actively assist in the vaccination for overseas Chinese and build a "firewall" for their health. Several overseas branches of CGGC actively responded to the program and help the Chinese embassies and consulates in the vaccination work to safeguard their health.

[Ethiopia] Helping with the implementation of the "Spring Sprout" program is hard work, but worth it

Ethiopia in East Africa was among the first countries seeing the start of the "Spring Sprout" program. Thanks to the proactive arrangement and efficient organization by the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and the support of members of the China Chamber of Commerce, the vaccines made in China were successfully transported to Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, in March 2021.

As the vice chairman unit of the Chamber of Commerce for Chinese Companies in Ethiopia, CGGC's Ethiopia branch took the initiative to assist the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, and undertook all the work of registration, preapproval, payment collection, vaccination organization, etc. Led by the embassy officials, the volunteers successfully completed the vaccination of first doses for nearly 7,000 people, including all dispatched personnel, employees of state-owned and centrally-administered enterprises, employees of private investors and contractors, scattered individuals and overseas Chinese in Ethiopia, contributing to the implementation of the "Spring Sprout" program.

As early as on March 25, the first batch of 200,000 doses of vaccines aided by the Chinese government arrived in Angola. The Chinese embassy immediately organized Chinese-funded hospitals and the Chamber of Commerce for Chinese Companies in Angola to prepare for and carry out the vaccination work. As the vice chairman unit of the Chamber of Commerce for Chinese Companies in Angola, CGGC Angola branch actively responded to the call of the embassy by sending volunteers for the vaccination work.

The Chinese compatriots in Angola all expressed their excitement and pride at getting vaccinated with the vaccines from the motherland, which consolidated their confidence in fighting against COVID-19 in Angola. The vaccination is now continuing. CGGC's volunteers are in full swing to enable the "Spring Sprout" program to benefit every Chinese citizen in Angola.

[Pakistan] Timely assistance of COVID-19 vaccines

Since February 2021, the Chinese nationals in Pakistan started to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and the vaccination is still underway. As the vice chairman unit of the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Pakistan (ACEP) and the chairman unit of the ACEP Islamabad branch, CGGC Pakistan branch actively cooperated with the Chinese embassy and consulates and other Chinese-funded enterprises to organize the vaccination covering the whole Islamabad region.

When the COVID-19 pandemic continued to rage in Pakistan, the vaccines donated by the Chinese government arrived in this country on February 1. To ensure the Chinese compatriots got vaccinated as soon as possible, CGGC's volunteers and the staff of the ACEP Islamabad branch stuck to their posts, carefully sorted out the work procedures, communicated with multiple parties to decide the quantity and sequence of vaccination, and thus guaranteed the smooth progress of vaccination.

After the completion of the vaccination of the first dose, the volunteers summarized the experience and further optimized the service process. Thanks to the efforts of all parties, from February 7 to March 9, more than 1,000 people in the Islamabad region received two doses of vaccines. Another 522 people received their first dose from March 29 to 31, and the vaccination of the second dose for them started on April 20.

Every overseas Chinese is forever backed by his or her mighty motherland. The "Spring Sprout" program has warmed the hearts of all overseas Chinese and given them more confidence to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic overseas.

In half a month, the volunteers from CGGC Pakistan branch engaged in the "Spring Sprout" program handled 2,000-odd emails and answered 800-odd phone calls. Under heavy workload, they are happy to see the reassuring smiles of the local compatriots and feel it is worth it.
