CGGC Awarded for fulfilling social responsibility in Kenya

Guided by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and hosted by Kenya-China Economic and Trade Association (KCETA), the press conference on the release of the Chinese enterprises in Kenya social responsibility report 2020-2021was held in Nairobi, capital of Kenya on December 15. It was attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, relevant authorities of the Kenyan government, industry associations and Chinese enterprises in Kenya, and the release ceremony of the social responsibility report was chaired by the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya. The executives of CGGC in Kenya attended the event.

The year 2021 marks the 8th anniversary of the BRI and the 58th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Kenya and China. As one of the serial activities to celebrate the the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, KCETA planned and organized the "growing with Kenya" event to award 12 Chinese enterprises deeply engaged in Kenya's economic and social development, and CGGC Kenya branch won the "Best Contribution to Social Responsibility" award in recognition of its efforts and contributions to the livelihood and wellbeing of the Kenyan people. Since entering the Kenyan market more than a decade ago, the company has remained true to its original aspiration and forged ahead by executing contracts against all difficulties and fulfilling social responsibility. It has organized a number of public welfare activities, including digging wells for local residents, building roads, renovating schools and hospitals, donating for education, assisting in wildlife protection and environmental protection, etc. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has been working with the Kenyan government and all walks of life to fight against the pandemic and donated epidemic prevention supplies and life necessities to the people in need. Meanwhile, the company managed to raise funds through diversified channels to prevent the contracted projects from reduction or stoppage of production. During the pandemic, it has guaranteed a stable job for over 1,600 local employees and achieved remarkable results in project implementation, which are widely recognized and appreciated by all walks of life in Kenya.

Guided by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and hosted by KCETA, the photography and essay contest "20 Years of Growing with Kenya" was held simultaneously. Faith Nzimbi, a Kenyan employee of the Thwake Dam Project Department of CGGC won the "Best Third-party Story" award for the entry "My Hope, Our Hope". Faith is an environmental engineer and a mother raising her daughter on her own. In the essay, she recorded her own experiences with the Thwake Dam Project, and showed the changes and hope brought by CGGC to Kenya's national economy, healthcare and medical treatment, ecology and environment, and people's livelihood.

The Thwake Dam is a flagship project to achieve Kenya's Vision 2030, and the largest water conservancy and livelihood project under construction in Kenya. CGGC will seize the opportunity to guarantee both contract execution and fulfillment of social responsibility, deeply involve in Kenya's socioeconomic development, and promote employment, economic growth, environmental protection and education development for the benefits of local people, making greater contributions to the steady and sustained development of China-Kenya friendship.
