The Port of Piraeus is a major port in Greece and a crucial point within the BRI. In 2009, COSCO SHIPPING started to operate the No. 2 and No. 3 piers at the Port of Piraeus, and took over the whole port in 2016. So far, the Group has directly created more than 3,000 jobs and indirectly generated over 10,000 jobs for the local population while also making a direct contribution of more than 1.4 billion euros to the local society.

The Port of Piraeus now operates six major businesses: container terminal, logistics and warehousing, ship repairing, cruise terminal, car terminal, and ferry terminal. At present, the port handles approximately 7.2 million TEUs of containers each year, and its world ranking in this regard has risen from 93rd in 2010 to 26th in 2021. At the same time, the port holds the distinction of being the largest ferry port in Europe, and serves as a major cruise homeport, a PCTC transit hub and a ship repair center in the Mediterranean. It is connected to the China-Europe Land-Sea Express, which extends to the hinterland of Central and Eastern Europe, and serves as the gateway for the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road to this region. The China-Europe Land-Sea Express, starting from the Port of Piraeus, has experienced rapid growth in recent years and has become the third major trade route between China and Europe, covering nine Central and Eastern European countries and serving a population of 71 million people.

China and Greece are working together to transform the Port of Piraeus into a major hub for container transshipment, as well as a center for land-sea intermodal transport and international logistics distribution in the Mediterranean region. This will enable the port to play a pivotal role in boosting the development of the China-Europe Land-sea Express and the Belt and Road.
