ANKARA, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- China plays an essential role within the Group of 20 (G20) in pushing for a more just and equitable world order, a Turkish expert has said.
"China is a very big economy and is also promoting more equitable global governance, therefore its role in this group is significant for other members," said Ali Oguz Dirioz, an associate professor of international relations at Ankara's TOBB University, in a recent interview with Xinhua.
Stressing the need to revive global cooperation through inclusive platforms like the G20, of which the African Union became a permanent member in 2023, the expert urged nations to address common challenges such as economic inequality and climate change.
"Today China is also a technology producer, whether it's electric vehicles, telecommunications technology or space technologies. So China is a global powerhouse," Dirioz said.
China has been playing an important role in sharing development opportunities with Global South countries, including with his country Türkiye in such areas as technology and energy, he said, referring to China's focus on technological innovation as critical to the world's continued economic growth.
Now, more than ever, China's role on environmental sustainability, economic development, and peaceful diplomacy is needed on the global stage, Dirioz said, affirming China's critical role in driving positive change through the platform of G20.
