BRI Stories | Workers on the Hungary-Serbia railway project

BUDAPEST, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The Hungary-Serbia railway under construction is a major project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which symbolizes deep cooperation between China and Europe.

At the offices, construction sites, or even out in the fields, experts, workers from different parts of the world joined together for their common goal that is to build and upgrade the railway linking Budapest in Hungary to Belgrade in Serbia.

Chen Zhongliang from Shenyang of China arrived in Budapest in August 2019 and joined the Hungary-Serbia railway project. As a chief engineering officer at the project, he is in charge of management work related to design, technology, engineering and skills training.

Bartha Gyorgy Janos works as a deputy director of office at China Railway Electrification Engineering Group (Hungary) Kft. He joined the Hungary-Serbia railway project in January 2020 as a translator and interpreter. As the work expands, Gyorgy now leads a translation team of five members. The translation work at the project includes much knowledge on railway specialties, which made Gyorgy feel fulfilled. The project may help Hungary become a logistic hub in Central and Eastern Europe, according to Gyorgy.

Ambrusch Tamas works as a chief construction manager at the Hungary-Serbia railway project. The size, scale and diversity of the project impress him most during his work. Working with colleagues from different parts of the world, Tamas believes that railway is their common language. The project includes not only the construction of a railway, but also the building of roads and many facilities, which means many job opportunities for local people, according to Tamas.

The project, aiming to help the two countries build logistics hubs and enhance the construction of infrastructures to boost the economic development, will significantly shorten the traveling time for passengers and cargo from the two cities when completed.
