Since 2004, Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (GNHIDZ) has ridden the tide of big data development in Guiyang, seized the opportunity, launched a series of big data policies, and attracted a number of elite big data enterprises by outstanding business environment, thus becoming an industrial leader. Meanwhile, it has gone all out to advance the integration of big data with industry, services, e-government service and other industries, sped up the transformation and upgrading of traditional enterprises, quickened the pace of high-quality development, progressively shaken off the "path dependence" on traditional industries and opened up a path for the development of characteristic industries.

With over 30 national brands such as National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone, National Big Data Technology Innovation Pilot Zone, State Key Laboratory of Big Data Engineering and National Big Data Incubator, GNHIDZ has become a big data industry agglomeration area in Guizhou and one of the "1+8" open innovation platforms, with world-renowned big data enterprises like Intel, Dell, IBM, Baidu, Huawei Cloud and Alibaba settling here.

2013 is globally recognized as an epoch-making year for big data, as well as a year of setting big data as the industrial engine after exploring the development path of the electronic information industry for years. Among the 10 planned key industries with an output value of 100 billion yuan each, Guizhou's big data electronic information industry is expected to achieve an output value of over 100 billion yuan in 2019. Within only 6 years, Guizhou, used to be a struggling "follower", has caught up, overtaken and become a leader because of big data.
