Chinese companies in Romania donate anti-epidemic materials

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Romanian Interior Ministry on Wednesday received the latest batch of anti-epidemic materials donated from Chinese companies, including 10,000 N95 masks, 80,000 surgical masks, 500 protective suits and disinfectants.

Raed Arafat, State Secretary of the Interior Ministry and head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, expressed his sincere gratitude to China for donating urgently needed medical supplies during the critical period of fighting the epidemic.

The official emphasized that the virus knows no borders and it is very important for the international community to cooperate in the anti-epidemic fight. Romania is willing to continue to actively cooperate with foreign countries, so as to overcome the epidemic as soon as possible, restore normal production and living order, and ensure public health and safety.

Chinese Ambassador to Romania Jiang Yu said that in the face of the epidemic, the international community should work together to overcome the difficulties. She said that the Romanian government and people are united and actively responding to the epidemic, while the decisive and powerful measures they are taking are working.

"I believe that Romania will definitely win the final victory against the epidemic," she stressed.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic in Romania, local Chinese companies, including Bank of China Romania Branch, Huawei Romania, COSCO SHIPPING and Phoenix Tour, have donated anti-epidemic materials to the central and local authorities and hospitals in the name of companies or employees. Overseas Chinese associations here also actively sent medical supplies to the local frontline.

Romania diagnosed the first case of COVID-19 on Feb. 26. The latest official data released on Wednesday showed that 337 new cases have been registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total infections to 7,216. So far, 362 people have died from the disease, while 1,217 people have recovered and been discharged.
