A Chinese firm, Chambishi Metals Plc, is ploughing back resources in the community its operates through its Corporate Social Responsibility in supporting and building on sports activities in the Copperbelt province of Zambia, a local football club chairperson has said.

Chanda Mulenga, chairman of Doorgates Football Club in Kalulushi, said the Chinese firm has been consistent in supporting Kalulushi Modern Stars with sporting materials such as jerseys, boots among other sportswear.

Apart from supporting football, the mining company has also been sponsoring other sporting disciplines like women netball teams, Mulenga told Xinhua on Monday.

"The company has been so consistent helping with sporting materials to Kalulushi Modern Stars, it is just my hope that other companies operating in this area would follow suit," Mulenga said.

He said that young people who are not employed are now kept busy in sporting activities like football, keeping them away from bad vices.

"It is just our hope that more companies will emulate the gesture that Chambishi Metals Plc is doing to our community," he said.

He added that the Chinese company was further helping in creating jobs for youths in the mining industry.

"Kalulushi Modern Stars was in the recent past faced with various challenges but ever since Chambishi Metals Plc came on board, things are now changing for the better," he said.

Isaac Mwewa, a player for Kalulushi Modern Stars, said he was delighted that the Chinese enterprise has come in to sponsor his side.

"We used to face a lot of challenges in terms of sponsorship for our team, but this has come to an end from the time Chambishi Metals Plc came to our aid," he said.
