Xiamen actively participates in BRI construction

Since the beginning of 2021, Xiamen, East Chinas Fujian Province, has been actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and has achieved positive results.

First, Xiamen has upgraded the development of the Silk Road Maritime (SRM). In the first half of the year, the city operated 1,418 voyages via 72 SRM routes, completing a container throughput of about 1.64 million TEUs. Among them, 1,118 voyages were made along Xiamen Ports 55 SRM designated shipping routes, with a container throughput of 1.24 million TEUs, up 25.3 percent year-on-year.

Second, the city has expanded its Silk Road air transportation services. In the first half, the air cargo and mail throughput of Xiamen reached 162,000 tons, up 26.9 percent on a yearly basis, in which overseas cargo and mail throughput accounted for 78,000 tons, up 46.7 percent year-on-year.

Third, Xiamen has deepened economic and trade cooperation. In the first half of the year, Xiamens imports and exports with countries and regions along the BRI routes reached 129.76 billion yuan, up 32.6 percent year-on-year, which is 5.1 percentage points higher than the national average. During the same period, countries participating in the BRI invested a total of 490 million yuan in 46 projects of Xiamen, with the actual utilization of foreign capital increasing by 79.8 percent year-on-year.
