On July 11, the Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index Report 2021 (hereinafter referred to as Report) was released in Shanghai. Ningbo-Zhoushan was included in the top 10 for the first time, hailed as “progress star”.

Singapore, London and Shanghai are the top three, followed by Hong Kong and Dubai in the fourth and fifth place.

The Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index uses three primary indicators and 16 secondary indicators to evaluate the comprehensive performance of 43 cities across the world that offer port and shipping services from the perspectives of port infrastructure, shipping services and general environment.

This year the Report also covers important topics such as the impact of COVID-19 on the international shipping trade and the “dual carbon” challenge in the shipping industry.

According to the Report, Ningbo and Zhoushan are typical port cities located in the middle section of China's coastline and the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta. As a key part of China's port shipping, Ningbo-Zhoushan has been constantly enhancing its shipping service capability, recording the largest global cargo throughput for 12 consecutive years. It is not only an emerging port complex, but also a growing shipping service center.
