The last continuous beam on the No. 2 super large bridge of the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway (HSR) was successfully closed on Wednesday, marking the completion of the construction of all 24 continuous beams on the bridge, the railway's operator said.

KCIC, a joint venture consortium between Chinese and Indonesian state-owned firms that runs the 142.3-km HSR, said the closure creates favorable conditions for on-site beam erection construction and subsequent track laying process.

KCIC said the No. 2 bridge, with a total length of 36 km and is close to Jakarta-Bandung expressway, faces complex terrain environment, among others, in construction.

KCIC said the continuous beam closed Wednesday crosses the three-story expressway ramp and is a key and difficult control project of the whole line.

KCIC said during the construction process, Chinese firms attached great importance to high-speed rail technology and knowledge transfer, and trained more than 1,500 skilled continuous beam construction technicians.

With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the high speed railway built with the Chinese technology will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung, the capital of West Java province, from more than three hours to around 40 minutes.
