MG, a brand of China's top automaker SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (SAIC Motor, 600104.SH), officially released a new pure electric vehicle MG MULAN on June 13, reported Shanghai Securities News Tuesday.
According to MG, MG MULAN is equipped with a new super electric drive system and SAIC Motor's self-developed magic cube battery. The new car will be priced under 200,000 yuan and will be available in both the Chinese and European markets.
MG MULAN is positioned as a compact family sedan. It boasts an electric motor with a maximum power of 150 kilowatts, and can speed up to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Moreover, the battery pack of the sedan will take the ternary lithium batteries produced by a new energy power system research and development (R&D) company led and invested by SAIC Motor.
Zhu Jun, deputy chief engineer of SAIC Motor, said that the magic cube battery carried by MG MULAN can work well with all levels and types of products, and help reduce vehicle R&D and manufacturing costs, and expand the business model of vehicle-battery separation, so that all battery packs can be quickly replaced and interchanged on the same quick-change device.
According to Zhang Liang, deputy general manager of SAIC Motor's data business department, the multiple safety designs of MG MULAN, from body structure to the motor, battery and electric control systems, have fully complied with related European standards and regulations. At present, it has won related certifications of the European Union and met the conditions to be exported to the European market.
