State Grid's three poverty alleviation practices of the Brighten Up energy infrastructure project in the Philippines, the Poverty Reduction in Phase II of Brazil's Belo Monte UHV DC Transmission Project and Music Changes Destiny: State Grid Public Welfare Program Mare do Amanha Symphony Orchestra were included in the list of winners for Best Poverty Reduction Practices released on recently held 2021 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships held in Beijing.

Case solicitation was jointly sponsored by China International Poverty Reduction Center, China Internet News Center, World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, International Fund for Agricultural Development, World Food Programme and Asian Development Bank.

The above three cases are typical state-owned enterprises' poverty reduction efforts abroad. They demonstrate the replicable path of China's poverty reduction plan from multiple perspectives and dimensions, and provide experience for sustainable rural development in developing countries and global poverty reduction.

The short-listed "Brighten Up" project in the Philippines was put into operation in June 2019. With off-grid micro-grid facilities for photovoltaic energy storage, power was supplied for local villages that didn't have access to electricity before, benefiting more than 1,000 residents. It is the first large-scale project carried out by a Chinese enterprise in the Philippines to show its corporate social responsibility and promote public welfare. It has been highly recognized by relevant government departments of China and the Philippines, local people and all sectors across society in the Philippines, and has created a sound environment for the steady development of China-invested enterprises in the Philippines.

The two cases submitted by State Grid Brazil Holding S.A. demonstrate the practice of China-invested enterprises to stably operate projects and drive local economic and social development. Phase II of Brazil's Belo Monte UHV DC Power Transmission Project was completed ahead of schedule and put into stable operation by State Grid Brazil Holding S.A. in 2019, which witnessed the application of China's UHV technology in Brazil. Thanks to it, clean hydropower can be delivered from northern Brazil to the economically developed parts in central, eastern and southern Brazil. During the construction, the company went deep into the poor communities along the route, put into practice China's poverty alleviation experience, took into consideration the actual situation in Brazil, and adopted measures such as drilling wells, developing industries with distinctive characteristics, and building Brazil-style cultural confidence to help poor community residents with targeted measures to fight poverty. Also, State Grid Brazil Holding S.A. actively engaged with local coummunity, and participated and promoted over 50 social welfare projects with tax incentives. The favela orchestra in Brazil it has sponsored since 2011 has benefited more than 6,000 youths in slums. Many young people have thus embarked on the path of music, away from drugs, guns and violence, and saw their fate changed.

A total of 494 poverty reduction practices from 29 countries signed up for the event. After four joint evaluations conducted by the organizers, 106 classic cases were selected as the final winners.
