China-Pakistan Economic Corridor creates 190,000 jobs since 2013

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has created 190,000 jobs since it was first proposed in 2013, Meng Wei, spokesperson of China's National Development and Reform Commission told a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

Prioritizing the construction of the CPEC, China and Pakistan have also deepened collaboration in the four key areas of Gwardar Port development, energy, infrastructure construction and industrial cooperation since 2013, according to Meng.

Fruitful outcomes have been yielded in bilateral cooperation. For example, the China-aided Eastbay Expressway of Gwadar port in Pakistan opened to traffic in June, meeting the transportation needs of the locals in Gwadar and promoting sustainable development of the area.

In the next step, China and Pakistan will accelerate cooperation in agriculture, mining, information technology, people's livelihood and other fields to promote high-quality development of the CPEC, said Meng.
