TEGUCIGALPA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- A China-built hydroelectric plant has contributed to a stable clean energy supply in Honduras, alleviating electricity shortages in the Central American nation.

The Patuca III Hydroelectric Plant, built by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), is located in Olancho, the largest department in Honduras.

The plant has an installed capacity of 104 megawatts and an average annual power generation of 336 million kWh, covering around 6 percent of the country's power demand.

Construction on Patuca III started in 2015. The plant was successfully connected to the national grid in Dec. 2020, marking its full completion.

The Patuca III hydroelectric plant is considered one of the most modern hydroelectric power plants in Central America.
