Georgia
Note: This column mainly includes countries along the Belt and Road and countries that have signed cooperation agreements with China on Belt and Road Initiative.
The year 2013 witnessed steady growth in the relations between the People's Republic of China and Georgia and sound momentum in their cooperation and exchanges in various fields.
Georgia, committed to the one-China policy, continued to support China's position on major issues concerning China's core interests. The two countries maintained communication and coordination at the UN and other international organizations. Georgia supported China in the elections of international organizations including the International Civil Aviation Organization, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the Committee Against Torture and the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
On 7 October, China's new ambassador to Georgia Yue Bin presented his credentials to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Progress was made in business and sub-national cooperation between the two sides. The infrastructure projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Georgia advanced smoothly. China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province, among others, enjoyed cooperation with Georgia in economy, trade, tourism and other areas.
The two sides had quite vigorous cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The Confucius Institute at Free University of Tbilisi was well operated. In May, the final contest of the 12th "Chinese Bridge" - Chinese language proficiency competition for Georgian college students was successfully held. In June, the ceremony for the publication of a collection of essays China in the Eyes of the Georgians was held in Georgia. In August, activities of the Georgian Culture Day were successfully held in China. Moreover, China held activities such as acrobatic performances and the "China-Georgia Martial Arts Exchange" in Georgia.
