After the principal railway beam was completed in the beginning of October, the Dalian-Su'ao Section of Pingtan Strait Highway & Railway Bridge is now building the highway beam.

In spite of the cold winter in December, the highway beam is still under construction. The workers were binding the rebars and pouring concrete on the principal body of the suspension beam. At the same time, the pre-stress tension and grouting operations were also being made.

"Till today, 80% of the principal highway beam has been completed; and more than 90% of the approach span has been done", said Li Chengbin, the engineer of Dalian-Su'ao section of Pingtan Strait highway & railway bridge.

The highway beam in Dalian-Su'ao section of Pingtan Strait highway & railway bridge has bridge spans numbered from 0 to 58. The four highway beams ranging from No. 38 to No. 42 are principal bridges, with the other 54 spans as the approach spans.

The length of the single-span principal bridge is much longer than that of the approach span, thus bringing greater challenges against construction. Li Chengbin said the suspension arm of the principal bridge is longer. The suspension beam from No. 39 to No. 41 has 23 sections while the approach spans often have seven sections. "In the process of construction, the suspension beam with 23 sections is just like a shoulder pole, having strict requirements for the balance control on the two sides", said Li Chengbin.
