In 2016, Dalian Port posted a 106-percent increase in yearly transit - 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), nearly three times the figure of 2014, chinanews.com reports.

As the biggest port in northeast China, Dalian Port was first built in 1899. It is the sea port for the region to connect with the Pacific Ocean and the world. Statistics show that over 98.5 percent of export containers in the region were handled by the port.

Automobile parts, machinery equipment and small commodities from Japan, South Korea and south, east and north China are now being transported to Europe through the "Liaoning-Manzhouli-Europe" freight train line which connects Dalian, Yingkou, Shenyang and Panjin in Liaoning, Manzhouli in Inner Mongolia and Europe.

The Dalian Port has opened several freight train routes connecting northern China's Liaoning Province with Europe, forming an efficient international logistics channel between Asia and Europe.
